Prof. Peter van Ooijen is a researcher and educator at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), focusing on medical imaging and the use of technology in healthcare. His work includes areas such as artificial intelligence in imaging, computational analysis, and clinical decision support systems with a focus on radiotherapy. By connecting technological advancements with clinical practice, he aims to improve diagnostics and patient care. In addition to his research, Prof. van Ooijen is involved in teaching and collaboration within UMCG and with external partners. His work emphasizes the practical application of innovations to benefit both healthcare professionals and patients. He is past president of the EuSoMII,  core expert of the AI in RT focus group of ESTRO, and member of the ESR Digital, AI and Emerging Technologies Committee. Prof. van Ooijen is a founding member of the European Society for Artificial Intelligence in Health (ESIAH) and serves on its Executive Committee. He contributes to the Society’s establishment and early growth, supporting its mission to advance the responsible integration of AI into clinical practice, research, and health innovation.
